How Google Buzz KILLS Twitter.

March 27, 2010

Earlier today I posted this tweet:

Basically your profile shows a cake and some streamers saying happy birthday – only seems to work in Google Chrome and Safari though – I think it has something to do with Webkit then.  Anyway, that’s not the point.

The responses I received from this Tweet from my 787 followers?  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.  Nothing.  This feels VERY familiar to a recent thing that happened to me on twitter. (Yes, I’m still going on about that).

In comparison:

Wow, some responses and a back and forth conversation, that includes over people.

That’s, not all – this was actually prompted by another conversation!

I actually had to SHORTEN the conversation to fit it in the post.

Has this EVER happen on Twitter?  No.

Now, I know many of you will say, but they’re not SUPPOSED to be alike.  I respond with WHY NOT?  You can post status here as well, with locations and all that goes with Twitter, but instead of being just a BROADCAST ENGINE — Buzz is a CONVERSATION ENGINE, which as far as I’m concerned gives much more value for your time invested on the platform.

Twitter for me has just become, for me at least, as I’ve noted, for broadcasting.  The “connection” is not there.  Once again, I’m convinced that Twitter is just an ego driven platform with people talking to themselves.
